Moving On
Win or draw next Tuesday (no loss because I still get to spend the rest of my life with the man I love), we’re planning a short roadtrip for the following weekend. A couple of days with Diego running in the sand and Chuck field testing the new wetsuit should do wonders for morale. This has been one of those elections where you learn who your real friends are, and who just nods and smiles. I’ll be glad to put it behind me. That also means I’m near the end of my run with KPBS too. Been fun, and a learning experience writing for a much broader audience, but I’m ready to put some of that time and energy back into Howling Point and Beachlaw. There’s a dog here that needs to be idolized.
Negative Voting
Finally finished marking my ballot this afternoon. There was very little to vote for, and most races boiled down to rejecting the completely unacceptable and acknowledging the palatable. I only voted for two out of eleven initiatives and disgust with a certain political party that seeks my vote while disparaging my family formed the basis for a lot of my other selections. I know there are good Republicans out there, but this year more than most I had a lot of trouble getting past the label. OK, it wasn’t just trouble, more like an insurmountable wall. Why can’t the Libertarians run more sane candidates?
Not Me.
Traffic spiked on the law firm website Tuesday. Didn’t really think about it, but it was interesting to see a whole bunch of searches on my full name. The given name, not the familiar Chuck.
Then this afternoon I got some e-mails through an e-mail address posted at KPBS, where I still post at Citizen Voices on election issues.
Apparantly I have the same name as some kid in Ohio who is suspected of starting that nasty rumor about Sarah Palin and her baby.
For the record, I’ve never posted anything at DailyKOS, and certainly don’t have the time or energy to make up some fake persona and do posts at yet another website. I have enough trouble keeping this site and beachlaw semi-current, keeping my wonderful editor at KPBS happy, and doing the work that pays some of the bills around here. Not to mention maintaining my tanlines, planning a wedding reception and obeying the puppy’s every command.
Ohio rings a bell though. Columbus, Ohio. I think I flew over that state once or twice in the old days. I suspect plastic crack has come to life and is running amock, trying to cause the collapse of our civilization as we know it. That or a Hoont has just virtually nipped me. Just kidding – I know the Hoont wouldn’t do that. Must be the crack.
Palin?
Sarah Palin? Well, she is a fellow Vandal. Go to KPBS if you have any thoughts you want to share.
Merging The Futures
In a couple hours I’ll be live on KPBS, as one of the guests on Tom Fudge’s These Days. A week from tomorrow I’ll be at Comic-Con geeking myself to death. Thoroughly enjoying watching my futures converge though, by noting that KPBS is ramping up their online Comic-Con coverage.
Yippee!
I may have more to say on this later, but it’s been a very busy morning day and I’m exhausted. Happy, joyful, ecstatic, gleeful and proud, but exhausted. Trying to skim the 120-page decision while sitting in the green room at KPBS (after our show, thank gawd) and talk semi-intelligently about today’s ruling in In Re Marriage Cases just brought back flashbacks to law school and the dangers of last-minute “reading.” Issue, issue, issue, rule, rule, rule, analysis, analysis, analysis, is this it, more analysis, ah finally, conclusion at page 120. Hopefully I didn’t step on it too bad. More specifically, hopefully the video Trina was shooting never sees the light of day.
Being Interviewed
What happens when you dress appropriate for a radio interview? Someone sends along a photographer. Oh well. Regardless of the wardrobe, and despite my normal preference for being an interviewer rather than an interviewee, it was a good show.
Catching My Breath
Still letting the mind digest last night’s return of Battlestar, and trying to sort out some thoughts from attending this morning’s taping of KPBS’ Envision San Diego. Both are taking a back seat though to catching some quality naptime with Diego and being psyched for tomorrow’s Crew Classic.
Prepping for Tuesday
The stress of having a hearing tomorrow has passed, the hearing being continued until April.
The stress of having a deadline for KPBS isn’t really here yet, because my deadline is still hours away. Fifteen to be exact.
The anticipation that if everything goes well, tomorrow we’ll be bringing home Diego from the shelter, well, that’s just overwhelming everything. Get ready for more photos of the Blur of Fur™.
Bits and Pieces
Nice morning swim today. Good unwinding after yesterday’s fifteen-hour day at the polling station.
Remember that just because I work at home doesn’t mean I always blog at home: Mardi Gras and election stuff was posted to KPBS here and here.
Thinking that politics just got even more interesting with the California Supreme Court setting a date to hear the same-sex marriage cases. With a ruling due 90 days after the March 4 hearing, there should be plenty of time for one candidate or the other to make the ruling an issue, no matter which way the case goes.
Busy with law work the rest of the week, but hopefully with a bit of time off to catch Cal Rugby when they come south this Friday.
