One Big Happy UC?
OK, I would have been happiest if the Grateful Dead archives were going to Cal, and most despondent if they’d gone to Stanford. At least with this option they stay within the system. Go Slugs!
Weekend College Sports Edition
Winners. Cal won, both on the turf and in the water, even though I didn’t watch. Locally, we watched Pepperdine, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego win at water polo. It was a good day for watching water polo, and a good day to be cheering for UCs, even if the Aggies did their best to make an exciting game slow-paced and boring. Back later today for more.
Rambling Through The Heat Stroke
Too hot and too close to a long weekend to get anything significant done with law practice stuff. Tweaking the site banner code a bit. May be including some new banners in the rotation later today, but not at the moment. Holiday banners are staying out of the rotation for a while too, despite an unfortunate sighting of the traditional Star Trek ornaments at Hallmark the other day. Sweating like a pig with temps of 94 degrees at 9:40 in the morning drinking iced coffee does not put me in the Christmas spirit. Bah Humbug me if you want, but no snowmen will be displayed here until at least October. A line must be drawn somewhere.
If you have need of seeing our Christmas banners, try the banner archive. It’s slightly cleaner than our physical storage unit, and about as organized.
Psyched for water polo watching this weekend, though not as psyched as I was. A tournament that had twelve teams two years ago and fourteen teams last year has dwindled to eight and among the missing are my favorite Anteaters and Banana Slugs. Since Cal doesn’t come down this far south, I cheer for the UC of my choice at this, and with five UCs represented in past years it was easy to always be vested. Sometimes even conflicted. Now, gasp, there will actually be a gap of two and a half hours on Sunday morning with no UC team playing, although I suspect the Pomona – Air Force match up will still be worth watching. My pick: Sagehens over the Falcons. Just gotta remember to adjust the camera filter for the pasty white skin tone of the Fighting Falcons.
Bigger, Wetter
Looking at my little planner for the week I see the Triton Invitational is coming up this weekend. Fourteen teams this year instead of twelve, including five of the ten UCs. Twenty nine games spread over two pools for two days. I can’t spend the whole weekend there, but will watch as much as I can. Even if the Berkeley campus isn’t sending a team (they’re playing in a tournament at Navy), I can still be a good UC alum and have pretty good odds of rooting for a winner or three. In case you’re interested, flashbacks to last year’s tournament.
