Weekend Slacking
I’m just trying to keep my head down around here right now; this is Spinner’s weekend. He’s singing two shows Sunday with the San Diego Men’s Chorus at their Pride concert at the Qualcomm Campus (NOT the Stadium, but the Jacobs Concert Hall in Sorrento Valley), and coordinating a poetry exhibit as part of his Master’s program.
[Just had a little earthquake. Back now.]
Me, with temperatures that might hit triple digits here in Escondido, I just want to stay cool. If I end up venturing out, there better be plenty of water or air conditioning.
[Just got the numbers. Looks like a 4.0 20 miles off the coast.]
Showtime!
Spent a big chunk of the afternoon watching Spinner and the rest of the San Diego Men’s Chorus perform some numbers from tomorrow’s Christmas concert. For the second year in a row they were combining the concert with an outreach effort for San Diego students interested in the performing arts. This year the event was at the Balboa Theater in the Gaslamp, as is Saturday’s concert.
While the school kids definitely seemed to be enjoying SDMC’s music, the big cheering was definitely for American Idol finalist Paris Bennett, who is guest starring with the Chorus this season. No, I don’t watch American Idol, and have to admit I couldn’t have picked her out of a crowd before today, but she definitely knew how to work the crowd and was a blast to watch. And yes, we met her after the show, and she and her Mom are just as wonderful in person. I just threw that last one in there for Micky, my favorite American Idol fan. There are benefits from being married to America’s favorite second tenor.
Local Warming
Ninety-nine degrees outside here. This is supposed to be April, not August. Diego might be embarrassed at how Friday’s haircut looks, but I’ll bet he’s loving the comfort level in the shade about now.
While I always love good conspiracy theory (OMG hot air from rambling democrats is killing the icecaps) I suspect the unseasonal heat is just residual energy from Spinner‘s sizzling performance last night with the SDMC at their Dreamguys show at the Balboa Theatre. Gotta love it when grown men can break out the hand puppets as back-up singers for The Lion Sleeps Tonight, and maintain more-or-less straight faces in the process.
Back To Work
Enduring the letdown of being back at work after a wonderful but exhausting weekend. Loving the new camera, even if the learning curve is the equivalent of jumping from Windows 3.1 straight to Vista. Silly me, I thought that staying in the same product line would make things simple. Simpler perhaps, but not simple. Went to a great concert Sunday and in addition to the Christmas holiday music got the ego rush of seeing some of my photographs in print (for their program) and getting a special mention for the project. I appreciate the shout-out, but I’m glad I was behind the camera, and very glad I wasn’t one of the singers wearing a Santa hat and a tux around Balboa Park during September’s heat wave. But the goodness is over.
Today’s all about being the Grinch. By necessity it’s a Business of Law™ Monday. Apparently asking past-due clients to pay their bills during the Halloween-Thanksgiving-Christmas-Valentine’s season is un-American. It’s the moral equivalent of knocking down the Salvation Army Santa and running away with both the bell and the pot. Screw ‘em. Chuckie’s got gifts of his own to buy.
Accounting for the Weekend
Went to AIDSWalk San Diego and three different Macy’s looking for deals. (Didn’t go to the beach, or the gym.) Upgraded WordPress and SquirrelMail. (Didn’t actually answer much e-mail.) Took some pictures, (but ended up not posting most of them.) Maybe you’ll see them at other sites. (or maybe not. Member’s Only passwords – blech!).
Why yes, I am supposed to be doing the law firm’s books this morning. Why do you ask?
Breathe Slowly
Friday was spent in Farm Country, and the experience sucked the life out of the week and the joy out of living. If this case ever ends I may post some details about it, but not yet.
Saturday was spent doing things around the house, burning off some tension at the gym, and going to a concert in North Park in the evening. The show was great, as always, but in a moment of geekdom, some of the biggest applause of the night was for the announcement that Nichelle Nichols will be narrating the SDMC‘s June concert, Sing for the Cure.
Sunday involved gluttony at a small breakfast place in Carlsbad, a walk on the beach, some photography that’s generally not worth posting, more gluttony, and some contemplation of why I take litigation cases when they always eventually rip apart my attempts to have a personal life. Quicken answered the question for me.
Tomorrow I’m heading to Farm Country again. Yippee.
