Photographers Have Rights Too
NYPD sued for harrassing photographers. [via KipEsquire] Not a new issue, unfortunately, and I linked to Richard Wong’s great post on similar problems at Corona Del Mar from Beachlaw last January. I’ve been lucky and my only similar problems were around the local federal courthouse a few years back.
Another attorney and I were taking photographs of each other in front of local legal landmarks for our respective practice websites, and the security guards at the federal courthouse got themselves all in a tizzy. We moved along and got what we needed elsewhere, but I always thought they were being a bit arrogant and kind of silly. They weren’t really increasing their security; they were just pissing off the people who stayed close to the building and stopped long enough for them to put their doughnuts down. As opposed to those who stood across the street or hid what they were doing, as though they were terrorists or something. Maybe if some good caselaw comes down some of these groups will finally sit down and come up with realistic, not to mention lawful, policies.
