Lying in bed, I reconsider a couple of statistics. A 94 percent cure rate is great, but what about those other poor bastards? What if I’m one of them? Suddenly, my future seems to lurch toward disaster because, pre-biopsy, Porter had estimated the chances that I actually had cancer at just 20 percent. If I was in the two out of 10 category, I can just as easily be in the six out of 100 group!

Yes, it has been almost three years since my diagnosis. No, the feelings he’s describing never really go away. And whether you’re 39 or 49, the ten-year survival rates they quote are really inadequate. But go read the good article at MSNBC.
