Whatever
For the first time in a long time, I’m not just drooling at the fact that Friday is finally here. The cube life has been manageable and there’s not much planned for the weekend. It’ll be nice to sleep in a bit and do some things with friends, but I’m glad I’m not in that mode anymore (knock on wood) where the non-weekend days were just being tolerated and endured like some torture from the Inquisition.
Pre-spinning
Options like this will make voluntary personal retirement accounts a safer investment that will allow an American to build a nest egg that he or she can pass on to whomever[*] he or she chooses.
– President Bush, April 27, 2005
What, could El Presidente be acknowledging a right of an individual American to have a long-term, legally recognized relationship with whomever he or she chooses? Since I really doubt he meant that, or is even capable of such an open-minded thought, we’ll predraft the asterix that I’m sure will be added to that statement in the near future.
*As long as the “whomever” is in traditional marriage with the account holder, or is a blood relative whose relationship derives from a traditional marriage. “Traditional marriage” as used here is not based on any particular religious belief or philosophical approach, because activist judges might hold that invokes the First Amendment and those pesky constitutional protections, but on the founding fathers’ clear intention to never tolerate ewwww those kinds of things or people who do those kinds of things. You know… those things we can’t say because we’re in prime time. Things even worse than wardrobe malfunctions. Icky things. ewwww Next question.

What I’ve Been Doing
Working and Swimming
Work was good, swim was better.
That sums up the day.
Drifting?
The weekend started out relaxing. Breakfast and a walk on the beach. Took a few pictures, some of which I was quite happy with. I think I’m getting better with the timing on the digital camera – there were far fewer images in this batch where I’ve completely missed the action part of the action shot.
From there I drifted over to the gym and had a nice swim, but the haze and clouds drifted back in about the time I finished the laps and was ready to read a bit on their deck, ending that effort at tan maintenance. Still, the swimming was calming – a nice long swim helped clear my mind and really felt pretty good.
On a vaguely related note, links to two good posts today at Aquablather’s site on swimsuit options and the low level of discussion in certain forums. I’ve posted before at the USMS forums, but hadn’t been there in a while because I wasn’t getting much out of the threads. Now I see I wasn’t missing much.
So I dragged my pasty white body home and pretty much wasted the rest of the weekend. I did some work on a possible CLE offering for the Beachlaw site that I’ve been tossing around, but lost focus around lunch. I did some law practice stuff too, but didn’t have that much to do and pretty much finished. There’s some cube-work sitting here, but I am really having trouble getting motivated for it. But on the bright side, I haven’t had the motivation to put away their files and their laptop either. Yes, their laptop. Proprietary software, an out-of-date OS, a policy against non-cube networking, and a fetish for Word docs and macros necessitate that I set up their laptop alongside my desktop unit and use its quaint little dial-up modem when I work from home. grrrrr
Maybe I”ll feel better tomorrow. More likely I’ll just caffeinate my way through the depression until I really burn out.
Big plans for the next couple of weeks. Pongo turns ten years old next Sunday. Bacon grease and a trip to the beach will probably form the core of the festivities. Also, the joy of my annual physical is on the calendar. More poking and proding, but probably no new prostate pictures for posting. We’ll save that for the specialists in July.
Canine Rights Campaign
The right to be walked. The right to dignity. Fortunately my door-operator and leash-holder already respects these rights for me, but I know too many puppies who are abused in this manner.
This law will protect those unfortunates from humiliation, ridicule and bladder stress. Turin will be the mecca for puppies seeking a place to live with respect and dignity. Freedom bounces on!
Friday Ambiance
Doing a little work at home rather than going straight to the office this morning. If I’d gone in, I would have been there about 15 minutes before I had to leave for a meeting downtown (driving past the apartment to get there), so I here I type.
Coffee with the iTunes radio giving me my doses of caffeine and NPR. A tad counterproductive, maybe, but part of the morning ritual. It is definitely spring here, so the windows are wide open. The sounds of birds chirping and the smoker across the way coughing up his lung are completing the ambiance.
Ready for the weekend. A little exercise, a little sunshine on the pale skin and just a bit of photography. Everything in moderation.
What the watchers see

I really don’t have much to say. The day was tolerable and I had a nice swim. Oh, and this is casa from orbit, more or less. I think Google missed by a couple of buildings – hopefully the other satellites are off target too. It would be nice to not wear the tinfoil hat for a while.
Suggestions? Assistance?
Our apologies for the ugly PHP error messages that were floating around here today. Those responsible will be severely disciplined.
Impure Thoughts
After seeing this post at Towleroad, I just can’t get the idea out of my mind that this whole thing with the pope, his dramatic death in a media spectacle and today’s replacement by the Emperor, are all part of some elaborate Lucas plot to promote the new movie. I expect to see Saint Yoda medals with every kiddie communion during the month of May.
