Instability
Corporate restructuring, reshuffling and downsizing are causing a bit of turmoil that no one really needs this time of year. I knew from temping when I lived in Salinas that employer loyalty was just one of those great myths from my parents’ era, kinda like home-ownership. I know my years in government positions and self-employment have kept me a bit insulated from the realities of the private sector too. No, it wasn’t me, at least in this round. But I’m certainly glad I never trusted the corporate benefactors enough to give up my coverage through BorgHealth or sell Nissantruck and rely on the corporate wheels. Ironically, the recently departed suggested putting Nissantruck out to pasture a few times. Being paranoid has a few benefits. Trust no one.
