Yay Good Business
Nice to see that big ubiquitous businesses like Wal*Mart aren’t killing off all the competition. I like my Netflix.
One Week
The thought processes are getting bouncy again as things get closer. Too many things to think about and too little time to do them all. I’m used to being able to take my life one day at a time and having to make long-term arrangements to cover both work and the personal life have been trying both my patience and limited attention span. I’ve been trying to put together a post on the recall and why I voted for it, but it hasn’t come together (yet?). Yes, I did already vote. I went down Friday and punched out my little chads at the Registrar of Voters. One question, a long list of names, and two initiatives. I votes yes twice, no once, and picked one of the candidates as my choice to lead California through this mess, since I’m not sure anyone can get us out of this mess in only three years. I hope Bush’s handlers look at the recall not as a statement about different ideologies but about what happens to political hacks who ignore the economy in favor of their personal agendas. Enough deep thought for now: time for Futurama.
Greetings From Sunny California
As previously posted, as many of you were suffering through that hurricane last Friday, I went up to La Jolla and watched the Cal-UCSD Men’s Water Polo game. Now, for those of you who are sick of pictures of downed trees and utility repair crews, pics of the fun in the pool.
BorgHealth: They’re Back
Lost two hours and a lot of rage dealing with BorgHealth the last two days. Had to pick up some prescriptions for the upcoming days of hell. My opinion of the pharmaceutical companies as some of the ultimate corporate carrion has just been reinforced. Four little bottles and one flat bubble package of pills. A total of 114 little pills. A claimed value of $187.15. $89.55 out of my pocket even with my “membership” in BorgHealth. The lost time and aggravation? A return visit made necessary because a BorgHealth computer decided that one of the meds wasn’t necessary until other, cheaper, drugs had been tried. Fortunately the pissed-off lawyer and the very cool staff of RadDoc got enough people’s attention that the computer was told where to go. At least until it’s time for a refill.
California’s Future
I realized over the weekend that if I’m going to vote in the upcoming hilarity, I probably should do it early or absentee. I don’t think I’ll be in much of a mood on the 7th to wait in line and deal with my chads, so it’ll be now or never. Voting for the recall is simple: there was never any question in my mind that Davis has to go. But do I really want to see how Arnold performs in a scripted debate? Should I hold off to see if the rumored Mapplethorpe nudes of the gubernatorial wannabe actually materialize or vote based on his interview with Oui magazine? And if not Arnold, then who? My choices are distributed at random over seven pages. Maybe the pornographer with a heart. I kinda liked Ueberroth, but he dropped out. Maybe I’ll read up on the golf pro and the sumo wrestler this afternoon. Someone’s gotta grab my interest.
Wet Friday
No, there was no rain. No hurricanes hitting us here in SoCal. In fact it was a beautiful day. As perfectly sunny as one of the last days of summer should be, with all the related beautiful scenery running around. Started off the day in the pool, did a lot of work, then went up to UCSD for the water polo game with Cal. Time to do the alumnus thing. Yelled GO BEARS many times. Cheered appropriately. UCSD took a quick lead and was ahead 4-2 at the half. Cal came back with a vengeance, outscored the Tritons by five points in the second half and ended up winning 11-8. May have some pictures up in the next week or so.
Sliding Into The Weekend
Started off the morning with a great swim, and the rest of the day has just kept on rolling along. Had the pool to myself for a bit over 1000 yards, and then the nice little jet in the hot tub beat on my back for a while. Now, words are pouring onto the screen easier than they have in months. Maybe the meds are working. Maybe I’m just calming down now that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. No, that wasn’t supposed to be a glow-in-the-dark joke. Well, maybe that turned it into one, but oh well, I’ve been hearing and saying a lot of them lately. It helps to laugh. Maybe it’s just the fact that it doesn’t feel like I’m working in a sauna today. Regardless, it feels good to be writing again – maybe the flow here will even pick up a bit.
Time To Lighten Up
This site has been much, much too serious lately. I’d post about the gubernatorial mess, but since I’ll have to live with whatever gets elected whenever we hold the election, I’m not finding it funny. So, I proudly post on the return of Opus. Opus is one of the best cartoon characters ever, close only to Calvin, aka Spaceman Spiff. I know this isn’t really fresh news, and that other, better bloggers than myself have already posted on it, but still, it’s just such cool news. Yay!
Bouncing Through The Week
Blood, sweat and tears. OK, not many tears, but BorgHealth sucked my blood this morning. On top of that the weather’s warming up again (literal sweat) and I’ve been finalizing my treatment decisions with RadDoc (figurative sweat).
No pictures for you all from yesterday’s scans by RadDoc. You’ll have to trust me that ultrasonically everything looks pretty much the same as last time. Aside from just not asking for pics, I also don’t want to piss off TPB’s office porn filters again.
RadDoc has pretty much the same scanning toys as BorgHealth, but he put me in stirrups this time instead of letting me lie on my side. Not exactly comfy, but then again it wasn’t meant to be. On a personal note to RadDoc, warm that thing up next time. And to the nurse, no matter how many times you said relax it wasn’t going to happen.
The big day is set for October 6. I’ll be poked and prodded in ways that will make even the most hard-core abducting alien blush. Think probes and tubes and stirrups and drugs and not in that good, late-night, pay-per-view way. I’ll come out of it with little radioactive seed implants, meds galore, and hopefully a much better long-term prognosis.
Sunday Meanderings
Certainly not the only lawyer working on the weekend. I know of at least one other, even though I know that given the nature of the profession there are probably a lot more of us out there. Got some writing to do that I’ve been putting off. Time to answer some probing questions from the opposing party. It would be nice to have documents ready for signature at a meeting tomorrow, and more for another meeting on Tuesday, so here I am. Between clients and doctors it should be a very busy week.
Slept very, very well last night. That’s been all too rare lately. Too many distractions, but they seem to be under control for the moment. Probably would have slept very well Friday too, dreaming peacefully about a wonderful evening spent, but I think a certain barrista spiked my decaf. Oh well, maybe reflecting on the evening consciously until 3:00 am was even better than dreaming about it since I seldom remember my dreams.
But, if the documents get done, and the clients are happy, and the doctors are happy and give good answers and don’t cause me more stress, hopeful for a relaxing Friday afternoon. A chance to be a Bear Backer again. Loyal alumnus time. Cal Men’s Water Polo at UCSD at 3:00 pm is on the calendar.
