Saturday Morning At The Beach
Gray with a bit of drizzle this morning, but definitely better than yesterday. During a few minutes when it was just gray this morning, I grabbed the camera and went down to Pacific Beach to get a look at the 15-foot surf pounding the coast as a result of the storm that hit northern California Thursday and Friday. I got some shots, but I’m not sure if any of them will really do it justice without a good reference point for scale. If the little guy getting crushed comes out clearly, they’ll be good shots; if not, they’ll just be shots of waves rolling over something you can’t make out.
Being relatively honest to myself about my skill levels, I didn’t even bother to take the surfboard out to the truck. Lots of guys out there were either more optimistic than I was or didn’t take the storm warnings seriously. I saw lots of surfboards on roofracks and lots of guys staring longingly at the waves. A few guys were out, but very few seemed to be catching anything worth the effort (but who am I to comment on what the ride was worth to them). A few intrepid souls tried to paddle out but just kept getting pushed back in. One guy seemed to pick the worst day around to try and learn, but seemed content walking a short way out and riding the whitewater back in on his knees.
Maybe some pictures if the roll comes out. Maybe someday I’ll break down and get a digital camera so these posts and their related pictures can go up at the same time. Some day.
