Had a good day today
Had a good day today with some friends who came down from the L.A. urban sprawl for the day. One is actually a very old friend: someone I met when I first moved in to the dorms at Berkeley twenty years ago this coming September.
The day’s start was not great – my first choice for brunch had a 45 minute wait and the near-by restaurant picked as a second choice was a mistake. I’ve had good meals there before, but despite the fact that the waitress told another table three people had called in sick, the present staff seemed intent on using all the tables and trying to serve as many patrons as they normally would. The end result: lousy service and a buffet of trays that were too frequently empty (and mobbed too quickly when they were eventually filled). I’d throw up a link, but I can’t even find a listing for them in the Union-Trib’s restaurant guide, so either I’m spelling the name wrong or they just don’t care about online opinion. If I verify the name in the next few days maybe I’ll throw something up for Google to index anyways.
The day could only get better from there, though, and fortunately it did. We spent a couple hours touring the ships of the San Diego Maritime Museum: the Star of India, the Berkeley and the Medea. From there we went down to Pacific Beach to watch the surf and all the people on the beaches. Lots of great sights and lots of catching up. It was nice playing tourist and not thinking about work. I hate that I live so close (relatively) to some people and don’t see them more often. I’ve gotta work on that.
