Well, I guess at least I should be thankful the thieves here in Salinas are stupid thieves. The stupid thief (or thieves) inspring this epiphany broke into my truck sometime last night. For whatever reason, whether it be a psychological deficiency or some material need, this thief stole a plastic cell phone holder, my cell phone charger, the remote control for the apartment complex gate, and a little adapter thingee to let me plug the CD walkman into the truck’s tape deck. He left hundreds of dollars worth of legal books, a great pair of Ray-Bans, a good surfboard, some dive equipment and a wetsuit.
What is the fascination with tech? Don’t these idiots recognize value? Maybe this is the clue the police will need to solve this crime. They need to look for some down-on-his-luck dot commer or day trader who’s not used to evaluating anything that can’t be powered by electricity. Maybe they can put a roadblock up on 101 between here and San Jose and search all the overpriced BMWs driven by pasty white people lacking social skills.
